About KVTC

Kitwe Vocational Training Centre (KVTC) is a leading public VTI on the Copperbelt, offering hands‑on technical training since 1985. We are committed to producing skilled artisans who drive local industry. With modern workshops and experienced trainers, KVTC bridges the gap between classroom and workplace.

THRIVE II project

Commissioned by BMZ and implemented by GIZ, THRIVE II supports the Ministry of Technology and Science, TEVETA and VTIs to offer labour market‑oriented training in water and energy. Focus provinces: Copperbelt, Southern, Luapula, Lusaka. At KVTC, the project enables Competency Based Training in plumbing & pipe fitting, in cooperation with private sector.

GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) is the implementing agency.

Project objectives

Increasing employability of young people in water and solar energy sectors through labour market‑oriented training.

Main objective

To establish a fully accredited Competency Based Training (CBT) programme in Plumbing and Pipe Fitting at KVTC, producing job‑ready graduates for the water and energy sectors in Zambia.

  • Trainer attends Training of Trainers (TOT) in Lusaka

Sustainability

KVTC is committed to long‑term viability of the CBT programme through:

  • Integration of training costs into institutional fee structure.
  • Continuous industry partnerships for student placements and equipment updates.
  • Regular trainer refresher courses under TEVETA guidelines.
  • Gender mainstreaming and community engagement to ensure steady enrolment.
  • Maintenance fund established from workshop revenue.

The project aligns with the German Development Cooperation "Water in Zambia" programme and will be sustained through government and private sector support.
